Knowledge of God

2 Peter 1:3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
Reading this Scripture caused me to look more fully into the knowledge of God.

John 8:31 is key to knowing the truth of John 8:32
“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Jesus is the Word and the Truth. John 1:1; 14:6

A decision to be a disciple is key to knowing God. Matthew 28:20 says we are to go and make disciples teaching them all Jesus has commanded. Without this commitment there can be no true knowledge of God.

This idea is also alluded to in Exodus 15:23-25 about throwing in a tree into the bitter water making them sweet. The tree represents the cross of Christ and the water represents the teachings of the Bible. By picking up our cross to follow Jesus in obeying His commands we then are able to understand the truth.

How do we start to know God?
What does it mean to know God?
What are the benefits of knowing God?
How do we come to know God?
What proves we know God? Or how do we know if someone knows God.

How do we start to know God? Eph 1:17; Jn 17:3
What does it mean to know God? Jer 22:16; Jer 9:24
What are the benefits of knowing God? 2 Pet 1:3
How do we come to know God better? Jn 14:21,23,26,27; Phil 3:9-11
What proves we know God? Or how do we know if someone knows God. Jer 9:3; Ps 9:10; Titus 1:16; 1 John 2:3,4

Ephesians 1:17  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the (true) knowledge of Him.

John 17:3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

John 14:21,23,26,27
14 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
23  Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
27  Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

Philippians 3:9,10,11  and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; 11 in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Jeremiah 22:16 “He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy;
Then it was well.
Is not that what it means to know Me?”
Declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 9:3
 "They bend their tongue like their bow; Lies and not truth prevail in the land; For they proceed from evil to evil, And they do not know Me," declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 9:24
 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD.

Psalms 9:10
 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Titus 1:16
 They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.

1 John 2:3
 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.
1 John 2:4
 The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;

John 5:39,40 It is important to not only know the Scriptures, it also important to develop a relationship with Jesus.
