Hearing God's voice, what is involved?

John 10:27
"My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.”

Hearing God's voice, what is involved?

My sheep. It is God's sheep that hear God's voice. Are we God's sheep? Many would say yes but don't try to hear His voice. It is not just that the sheep of God will hear His voice if they need to. They will also hear His voice when God wants to direct us.

It says that the sheep of God will follow Him. Are we following Jesus? When God moves do we move with Him? He may want to do something and we aren't listening. We need to be listening to hear.

Is there so much noise in our life that when God speaks, we can't hear? I know in my experience there is. I need to get the noise out of my life so that I can hear. What do I mean by noise. It is not just TV, Internet, movies, sports, music that I am talking about.
Our flesh screams loud if it is not under subjection to our spirits. Romans 12:1,2 talk of making our life a life a sacrifice for God instead of living for the lusts the world offers. It is putting aside the lusts of the flesh that will make a major step in being able to hear God.

We listen to what we want to listen to. Change your wants by putting your mind on the things of the Spirit instead of the things of the flesh. Romans 8:5-8.

And God knows us. Our knowing God and His knowing us is important in this hearing business. Hear God and talk to God in prayer. Do we have time for God? Do we have time to read the internet, or watch movies? I would say most do. Then we have time for God.

Earlier in this chapter it says Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. Life with God is better than life away from God. Serving God is better than serving yourself. We were made to live for God. Freedom comes as we live for what we were made for.

Live for God and you will come to know God better. You will talk with Him and be His friend. In John 14 it talks of the Father and Jesus coming to live with us as we live for God. Then we will commune with Him and He with us and there will be life.

You will hear God then. You will hunger for God and seek for Him by reading His word.

Hear the Lord

Ps 29:1 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters
Rev 1:15 Jesus voice was the sound of many waters.
Ezek 1:24 the sound of abundant waters the sound of the Almighty
Ezk 10:5 The sound of  Cherubim wings like the sound of God Almighty.
Job 40:9 Thunder like a voice like God
Rev 14:2 And I heard a voice from heaven like a sound of many waters.

John 4:14 The water Jesus gives will be a well of water springing up to eternal life. Jesus gives the spoken word. Which has been written. 1 John 1:1-3 This word is the water of healing. Eph 5:26 Washing of water with the word. Water baptism is a testimony of the washing of the water. Our sins are washed away and we are risen in newness of life.

God's voice brings life. Cultivate your ears to hear and you will have life to live daily.

Don't Miss What Jesus Said

Luke 18:34 "But the disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said. "

Do we have such a pre-conceived idea of Jesus that we miss what He says?

- understood none of these things.
-The meaning of this statement was hidden from them.
-they did not comprehend what was said.

Let us not be arrogant and think we can know everything. Some things God will not reveal to us. Rev 10:14

But at the same time, let us look to God for His light. And keep our heart Prov. 4:23 soft and not hard. Hardness of heart will blind us from the truth. Eph 4:18

Hearing

The chime of a clock bell. Train horn sounds off in the distance. Roalroad crossing bell sounds as the arms come down.

After a while the sound of a diesel engine comes then the train slowly rolls by. The single blast of the horn as it crosses the road. The hum of the rails as the cars roll over.

One car has a thump thump as it rolls by. Then after a while another car has a thump thump. The clanking and jingle of metal. Then the last car rolls by and the rumble of the train fades off into the distance.

The clinging of the Railroad crossing continues. A sound of an airplane can be heard above the clouds. The railroad crossing bell stops.

The Airplane is further away. Crickets can not be heard. Someone can be heard talking in the distance. Traffic from a bridge sounds in the background.

A voice from a warehouse loud speaker sounds for a short time. A male voice is now heard.

The clanging of a dump truck rear door bangs. Metal pounding along the railroad tracks. A car horn is faintly heard in the distance. Another train horn sounds.

A car approaches then whooshes past. Sloshing through a water puddle. A UPS truck toots his horn backing up.

A Generator sounds by the railroad tracts. Toot toot of the a train approaches. A tain horn is heard but not seen on another track. The rails ring as another train approaches. The poof of release of steam. Engine slows down then speeds up as it rumbles past. Now an engine is coming from the other direction. The squeaking as cars roll past in both directions.

In all this activity God is also speaking. But do we pay attention? Do we even think it's possible to hear?
